Tourism Marketing and Promotion

Research
SLTDA publishes a monthly statistical bulletin and an Annual Statistical Report which indicates the performance of Sri Lanka Tourism in terms of tourist arrivals, foreign exchange earnings, creation of employment opportunities and hotel occupancy rates. Domestic Tourism
The “Narambamu Sri Lanka” (Visit to Sri Lanka) initiative was launched in September 2008 as a means of promoting domestic tourism by creating awareness for lesser know attractions and forgotten folklore.
As a further step to enhance domestic tourism, SLTDA recently initiated regional tourism projects to promote “Lesser Known Attractions” in all provinces in the country. Click here for more information .

Increasing Technological Penetration in Tourism
In order to create awareness, educate and update the local tourism and travel industry with the latest e-travel technologies and strategies to stay in line with the changing trends in global tourism, SLTDA introduce e-tourism initiative which will take part as an annual event. The first conference focusing on “Next Generation Tourism for Competitive Edge” will be held in October 2010 with the participation of key industry stakeholders.
The specialist website www.etourism.gov.lk which will be launch in August 2010 provide tourism related businesses with the opportunity to enhance their global visibility.
The proposed Destination Management System (DMS), which will be implemented as part of an effective and innovative hotel reservation and destination management process, is expected to boost the tourism industry by functioning as an official web based information and services repository of Sri Lanka Tourism.
