Statistics

The quality of both natural and man-made environment is vital to tourism. Given the complexity of the relationship between tourism and the environment many activities that have adverse environmental effects exist. Many of these impacts are connected with the construction of general infrastructure such as roads and airports, and of tourism facilities, including resorts, hotels, restaurants, shops, golf courses and marinas. The negative impacts of tourism development can gradually destroy the environmental resources on which it depends.

Alternatively, tourism could create useful effects on the environment through environmental protection and conservation, by raising environmental values awareness and serving as a tool to finance protection of natural areas and raise their economic significance.
